Washington, D.C. U.S. Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland today released the following statement on South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol’s address to a joint session of Congress on the 70th Anniversary of the Mutual Defense Treaty between the U.S. and the Republic of Korea:

“The importance of the U.S.-ROK Alliance cannot be overstated. As a Korean-American who represents Joint Base Lewis-McChord, I am proud to celebrate 70 years of resilient partnership. Our two countries are interconnected economically and technologically, standing together to protect democracy in the Indo-Pacific.

We also remember the heroism of the multinational coalition that fought alongside U.S. and Korean soldiers during the Korean War. Our countries are forever bonded by sacrifice in the name of freedom.”

U.S. Representative Marilyn Strickland serves on the House Armed Services Committee and the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. She is the Congressional Black Caucus whip, a member of the New Democrat Coalition, one of the first Korean-American women elected to Congress, and the first African-American elected to represent the Pacific Northwest at the federal level.
