CHANCELLOR LANGE NAMED COMMUNITY LEADER OF THE YEAR

The Greater Seattle Business Association (GSBA) has named UW Tacoma Chancellor Sheila Edwards Lange as its Community Leader of the Year. The honor is part of the GSBAs Annual Business & Humanitarian Awards which “honor businesses and business leaders who are successful, exemplify the highest standards of their profession, promote diversity and inclusion in the workplace, demonstrate leadership, and invest time and resources into their community.”

The GSBA is the largest LGBTQ+ and allied chamber of commerce in North America. More than 1,300 businesses and nonprofits are members of the GSBA. The organization’s mission is “to combine business development, leadership and social action to expand economic opportunities for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer community and those who support equality for all.”

In choosing Chancellor Lange for the Community Leader of the Year Award the GSBA praised her work with the University of Washington’s Office of Minority Affairs & Diversity as well her efforts with the Seattle Promise Initiative and the Black Male Initiative.

“Her [Chancellor Lange] accomplishments have brought a more inclusive education                           to the thousands of students across our region’s universities."

                                   — The Greater Seattle Business Association

Chancellor Lange is active in a number of different organizations and has served on the boards of the Alliance for Education, Seattle Art Museum and the Community Development Roundtable.
