Gov. Jay Inslee travelled last week to Pierce County, where he met with local officials to get an in-person look at how county officials are dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition to meeting with county health officials, the governor also spoke with local business owners, who are feeling the effects of the pandemic perhaps more severely than any other group, KOMO News reported.
Inslee stated his satisfaction with how county officials are handling the crisis and cited their decrease in cases.
When asked about the progress in Pierce County and around the state, Inslee said, "COVID is a deadly disease, (but) Washington is a tough, smart and scientifically literate state. And what we are doing is reducing the infection rate," according to KOMO News.
The data does appear to back up this assertion. Cases in Pierce County are declining at a faster rate per 100,000 when compared to the average around the country and the state. There are many reasons to be optimistic for current case count trend, but there remains work to be done in counties that are experiencing a secondary case surge.
