Cost of college went up for all students at Pierce College-Puyallup

In-state tuition and fees rose 3.2 percent for 2018-19 at Pierce College-Puyallup, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Washington residents paid $3,952 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $121 more than the $3,831 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 10.8 percent more than residents this year, or $4,380. Their price tag grew 3.2 percent from $4,245 in 2017-18.

About 98 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Washington residents. And about 1 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 58 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 142 students received grants or scholarships totaling $837,445 and 79 students took out student loans totaling more than $363,434.

Including all undergraduates (4,453), 1,291 students used grants or scholarships totaling $7.1 million, and 700 students took out $4.2 million in federal student loans.
