Cost of college went up for all students at Bates Technical College

In-state tuition and fees rose 15.3 percent for 2018-19 at Bates Technical College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Washington residents paid $5,391 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $714 more than the $4,677 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 102 percent more than residents this year, or $10,889. Their price tag grew 7.9 percent from $10,095 in 2017-18.

About 99 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Washington residents. And about 1 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 59 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 108 students received grants or scholarships totaling $798,019 and 38 students took out student loans totaling more than $143,901.

Including all undergraduates (4,445), 681 students used grants or scholarships totaling $4.7 million, and 263 students took out $1.1 million in federal student loans.
