Cost of college went up for all students at Tacoma Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 3.1 percent for 2018-19 at Tacoma Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Washington residents paid $4,276 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $130 more than the $4,146 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 127 percent more than residents this year, or $9,706. Their price tag grew 1.5 percent from $9,564 in 2017-18.

About 97 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Washington residents. And about 2 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 44 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 267 students received grants or scholarships totaling $1.6 million and 85 students took out student loans totaling more than $482,374.

Including all undergraduates (6,242), 2,180 students used grants or scholarships totaling $12.1 million, and 995 students took out $6.1 million in federal student loans.
